Counselling and Psychotherapy in Retford, Worksop and Doncaster
BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy (First class), gained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute Nottingham in partnership with Staffordshire University.
ABC Awards Certificate in Counselling Concepts, gained at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, Nottingham.
I am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and therefore committed to Continuous Professional Development and regular Supervision.
I have extensive experience of the commitment required, and pressures placed upon our working lives, as a result of over 25 years of self-employment. A series of life challenges and changes provided an opportunity to follow my passion to study and train to become a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. During my studies I worked in two Universities supporting local and overseas students, and a national charitable organisation supporting adults with emotional difficulties.
My personal philosophy
Although challenging, I believe life is a positive opportunity. To meet life’s challenges, we are bestowed with an energy to move forwards and fulfil our potential. Just as an acorn has the capacity to become an oak tree, I believe that given the right conditions we also possess everything we need to develop and grow. We are central to our ever changing World, developing complex and autonomous ways of relating to ourselves and others as we try and make sense of our lives.
I believe there to be a paradox in what it means to be human. We experience and understand ourselves to be individual, yet we get our nourishment and growth from being in relationship with others. I believe we are sponge-like; absorbing our environment and experiences in order to establish a comfortable range of emotions that we carry forwards into the future.
Aligned with my take on life, I consider therapy to be a challenging yet positive opportunity to untangle psychological difficulty in order to move forwards and fulfil our potential.
